… Asks public to disregard running mate rumours fueled by social media
….. Explains Discovered State Aircraft Controversy
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has been speaking on a number of issues ranging from the controversy surrounding the discovered Rivers aircraft to recent declarations and consultations by politicians in the country.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting on Tuesday in Government House,Port Harcourt,Wike said that it was improper for certain quarters of the country to heat up the polity by declaring interest when there is the need to mop up divisions and engender peace and unity across the country,
The governor who stressed the need for zoning said that what is happening in the country at the moment is worrisome and not lost on the south as it is taking its time to observe, and would strike at the right time hence, “When the South will speak,we will choke them”
Governor Wike took a swipe at the founder of AIT, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi for being an enemy of zoning. He said the utterances made by the high chief recently, in public, were most disappointing and wondered how a man of that calibre could foist his preferred choice and choose a path for the people of the south.
On reports of the governor considering to be a running mate to some politicians in 2023 elections, Wike advised the public to discountence such reports dismissing them as the figment of imagination of the social media.
The development comes 24 hours after reports on the choice of the governor as running mate to former vice president,Atiku Abubakar made headlines.
The governor also cautioned members of his party with interest for the governorship seat in the state to mellow, saying the time to start is after the amended Electoral Bill had been assented by the President and election guidelines released by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
Wike also clears the air on the controversy surrounding the discovered Rivers aircraft in Germany.
He disclosed that on assumption of office in 2015, there was a lacuna created following the absence of handover notes by his predecessor. Wike who contradicted the statement made by a former Commissioner for Transport, George Tolofari, that there was proper handover by his ministry, however, set up a two- man team to reach out to the former Commissioner and request for a proper handover note for the aircraft.
The governor reiterated his stance on anointing a successor saying he does not believe in it but would pray to God to give the state a worthy individual that would succeed him.
