….assures continued support for host communities through skills
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rumuogba-Golden says it will continue to utilize the skills and occupations of its members to impact on its host community through vocational services.
President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rumuogba-Golden, Rotarian Antonia Osugba said this during a celebration fellowship to mark the Rotary Month of Vocational Services.
She said, “Vocational Service month is a great time to celebrate and learn about the life work of our members, whether it is a profession that has lots of history or newly established. January is the month for us to consider how our Rotary values – and our own actions – influence public perceptions of Rotary. One of the most important aspects of Rotary is building relationships. Learning about professions and job involvement is one of those foundation stones to creating an environment in our Rotary Clubs which builds relationships”.
Osugba said Rotarians still pride themselves on being able to use their professional stature and knowledge to make things happen worldwide, wherever there is a need for change.
“Rotary International defined the Object of Vocational Service “to encourage and foster: high ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; the dignifying by each Rotarian of his occupation as an opportunity to serve society. This month and in the months ahead, our members take some time during our club meetings to share their stories of what they do to impact their world. Relationships becomes stronger and one of the reasons for the founding of Rotary is been expressed. When we are known as Rotarians, then everything we do reflects upon us all. By living by our core values and committing to Service Above Self, we build a stronger Rotary and a better world for all”, she said.
Our correspondent Precious Ahiakwo-Ovie reports that today, with over 1.5 million members in more than 35,000 clubs in nearly 200 countries, Rotary provides humanitarian service, promotes high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build international understanding, goodwill and peace.
