…… as governor receives historic chieftaincy title” SeIbidokibo” at civic reception for job well done
The people of Kalabari land comprising 3 local government areas, Asari-Toru,Akuku- Toru and Degema in Rivers State, on Saturday, February 5, hosted Governor Nyesom Wike to a civic reception at Abalama,an ancient town for his relentless passion for developing the kingdom.
Key highlight of the occasion was the presentation of an honorary chieftaincy title of” Kalabari se Ibidokibo” ( One who loves to do good things for the Kalabari Kingdom) by the council of chiefs led by the Amanyanabo of Abonema.
Presenting the title to the governor, the Abonema monarch said that It was the first time such a title would be given to anyone adding that the February 5,,2022 would be in the annals of the history of the Kalabari Kingdom.
In his response, Governor Wike thanked the Amanyanabo and the Council of Chiefs for the honour bestowed on him. He however,noted that same should also be given to his Deputy,Dr Ipalibo Banigo, who he described as” experienced, dedicated, loyal and not ambitious.”
The event had several goodwill messages delivered by distinguished personalities of the Kingdom.
In his message, Professor Nimi Briggs ,a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt thanked Governor Wike for the good he has done for the people but said , considering that the people of the kingdom have paid their dues over the years ,it was proper to ask the governor to look in the direction of Kalabari land for his successor ahead of 2023.
Another son of the soil, High Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs said the achievements of Wike in office and goodwill to the people of Kalabari land particularly in executing developmental projects, bear ,’loud and clear ‘ testimony of his benevolence saying,’ We have never had it this good
Dumo ,who is Head of the Oruwari house in Abonema said projects like the Abonema Ring Road and appointment of Kalabari sons and daughters in key government positions such as Deputy Governor, Secretary to Government ,Commissioners and Special Advisers speak volumes about the personality and detribalised nature of the governor as well as the union of the governor and the Kalabari people. He expressed optimism that the governor “will bring the Kalabari people out of political wilderness’.
Another distinguished son,Engr Bekinbo Dagogo- Jack traced the progress of Kalabari land to the passion for education and alliances made by their forefathers. He added that the Kalabaris are trustworthy and do not betray friendship.
He described Governor Wike as a sincere and reliable person who does what he says .
