The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA has advised Nigerians not to panic as there would be supply of Premium Motor Spirit ( PMS) soon to make up for thel shortfall caused by the 90 million litres off specification petrol imported into the country.
The Chief Executive officer of the Agency, Farouk Ahmed at a meeting of stakeholders in Lagos said there was 20 days sufficiency volume of petrol in the country.
He told the meeting comprising major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria,Moman,Depot and Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria,DAPMAN and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, Limited that between Tuesday and Wednesday, the off specification product would be cleared.
Ahmed disclosed that there is 39,000 Metric Tonnes vessel that is about to discharge at the Apapa Single Port Mooring which would provide products to major oil marketers adding” But with aggressive importation by the NNPC, this gap will be mitigated in the next few days, according to data we obtained from the NNPC program.
For more than two weeks, motorists in the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja are being challenged by fuel scarcity as many filling stations showed emptiness while stations that have the product contend with long queues. Many now trek for hours to get to their destinations while prices of goods and services have also gone up .
Unsuspecting Nigerians who dashed to the filling stations at the weekend in some parts of the country, bought off quality petrol that damaged their fuel pumps and engines with no apology from the authorities to placate their pain.
NNPC is the magor importer of petroleum products and so far, no announcement has been made by the Federal Government to punish erring contractors.
