The Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee( CE CPC ) of the All Progressives Congress APC has proposed amendments to the Party’s constitution.
National Secretary of the committee, Senator James Akpanudodehe disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
The committee stated that the APC Constitution 2014 has been in effect for almost eight years and together with judgements from courts of competent jurisdiction, administrative experiences have revealed flaws in the constitution hence, it became very important to conduct a review of the party’s constitution.
The statement said the proposed amendments include replacing the Party’s Board of Trustees ( BoT) with a new title National Advisory Council with streamlined membership and clear powers and functions.
The CECPC also proposed to clarify ambiguities in the constitution, fill gaps that have become apparent, create zonal congresses, and clarify the powers of the party’s National Executive Committee ( NEC) and National Working Committee.( NWC).
It also proposed amendments for clearer accountability by organs of party, new organs for the efficient administration of a party, fair distribution of income between national and sub- national organs, and clarify disciplinary procedures and powers etc.
The Committee chaired by Mai Mala Buni, Governor of Yobe State disclosed that all members of the national convention have been served with a notice of the proposed amendments.
