The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Monday declared the suspended Head of Intelligence Response Team (lRT) , DCP Abba Kyari wanted for role in drug trafficking.
NDLEA’s Spokesman,Femi Babafemi ,at a press conference in Abuja released videos of Kyari’s involvement with drug cartel that operates the Brazil- Ethiopia- Nigerian routes
He was seen bribing an official of the NDLEA with wads of dollar notes to help the cartel in their illicit drug operations in the country.
Babafemi said that Kyari had also approached the Agency’s officials to compromise their hard stance on drug traffickers .
Meanwhile, reactions have trailed NDLEA’S “wanted’ tag on Abba Kyari
A non governmental organization,HURIWA has asked the Inspector General of Police to immediately arrest Kyari.
The National Coordinator of the group, Emmanuel Onwubiko said that the call for Kyari’s arrest should be done without wasting any more time ” in the face of glaring and incontrovertible evidence as stated by a statutory law enforcement agency.
” Everything covered has been revealed on the rooftop,if the mind- blowing allegations of NDLEA are anything to go by. Truth is like light, any attempt to cover it always fall if all things are equal and if the prima facie evidential allegations of NDLEA is factually accurate.”
The Organisation recalled how Kyari was indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI) in the United States for his alleged involvement in $ 1 million scam perpetrated by alleged Internet fraudster,Ramon Abbas popularly called Hushpuppi.
The office of the Attorney, Central District of California had ordered the extradition of DCP Kyari but the Inspector General of Police and the Artoney General of the Federation are reportedly shielding the suspended police officer away from eagle- eyed FBI
Several reactions have also been gathered from some Nigerians.
A good number of People who spoke with current matters under condition of anonymity wondered why the NDLEA should declare him wanted when it knew where to get him.
According to them, Kyari had been seen attending public functions in company of notable Nigerians without recourse to the ongoing investigation linking him to crimes and asked why he was only just being fingered in the drug cartel .
Others however, viewed the NDLEA’S action differently, those in this court of opinion said that the Agency’s action was a smokescreen to further shield Kyari away from the FBI.
They argued” It’s a matter of the NDLEA seizing his passport and taking him to custody for sometime to make it look as though it meant to deal with him but you know as the country is, they will release him in no time. He is a sacred cow’
Yet, others opined that it was time to let Kyari go and meet the Americans to answer questions regarding his role in cyber crime saying since he had been identified as an accomplice, it was neccessary to also give him the Hushpuppi’s treatment.
The NDLEA’s declaration of Kyari comes a few days after the Police Service Commission ( PSC) dissatisfied with the conduct of Police investigation into his case, at its meeting on February 11, asked the police to conclude investigation.
It called for a different panel to handle the investigation saying that the new panel should complete the investigation within two weeks
