
…pledges donation of 40KVA generator to boost power supply
The Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator George Thompson Sekibo has handed over the completed Ultra modern ten Room Guest House to the Executives of the Rivers State University (RSU)Alumni Association.
Speaking on the oçassion in Port Harcourt last Friday, Senator Sekibo stated that the guest house was initiated and built by him in conjunction with the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) as part of his constituency project for the University.

Senator Sekibo who expressed his commitment to continue to contribute to the infrastructural development of the University recalled several other interventions projects he had executed in the institution adding that his efforts was his way of giving back to the University for impacting positively on his life.
The Senator pledged to donate a 40KVA generator to compliment power supply to the building adding that he will undertake the entire fencing of the premises.

Guest of honour and state Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Desmond Akawor who commissioned the Guest House commended Senator Sekibo for his contributions to the improvement of facilities of the University and urged other Alumni members of institution to emulate the magnanimity of Senator Sekibo.
The PDP Chairman equally commended the Vice Chancellor Prof, Nlerum Ikogbule and management of RSU for not participating in the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Accedemic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and lamented what he termed the decadence that has bedevilled University education in the country.

“There was a country and the country has been lost.what we have today is what we have put ourself into. We must get our PVC ready to change this government that has brought hardship to Nigerians,” Chief Akawor lamented.
The party Chairman appealed to RSU Alumni Association to ensure sustaininabilty of the facilities in the Guest House stressing the need to engage experts to manage and maintain the edifice.
Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nnamdi Okoroma who represented the Vice Chancellor at the event expressed appreciation to Senator Sekibo for always coming to the aid of the University.
Prof Okoroma said that RSU has enjoyed tremendous infrastructural leap under Governor Nyesom Wike administration emphasizing that staff of the University has equally enjoyed improved emoluments compared to other institutions in the country.

Earlier the National President of RSU Alumni, Prince Anyanye Kio thanked Senator Sekibo for coming to aid of the association adding that the gestures demonstrates his love for his Alma Mata.
Correspondent Precious Ahiakwo-Ovie reports that Prince Kio had among other things appealed to Senator Sekibo to assist the association in the provision of Close Circiut Television ( CCTv) and fencing of the premises to ensure the security of the building.
