As the war prompted by Russia on Ukraine’s soil gather steam on Thursday, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization NATO and the European Union have condemned Moscow’s actions saying it had reintroduced war on the continent.
In a joint press conference in Brussels, the Belgian capital, EU President, Ursula Von der Leyen and NATO Secretary, Jens Stoltenberg unitedly assured the imposition of stiffer sanctions on the Kremlin.
According to Stoltenberg,, “This is barbaric and we condemn it without any reservations.We are at a grave moment for the security of Europe.Russia is attempting to turn back the clock by force to re- establish a strell of influence and to undermine the global rules that have kept Europe safe for decades.
” We have all made tireless efforts to engage Russia in diplomacy but Moscow has refused to allow and chosen aggression.
” NATO and the EU stands with the brave people of Ukraine.We support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.And we support the right of self defence.
” There must be no misunderstanding or miscalculation by Russia.NATO will do whatever it takes to protect and defend all allies.
Stoltenberg said NATO and allies have strengthened their defense with more troops from the United States and many other allies
He added ” NATO and the EU stands united. We condemn Russia’s grave violation of International law and of the principles on which European security is built.
” I welcome the coordinated actions announced by the European Union,NATO alliies and patners.This sends a strong message of unity, and it demonstrates how alone and isolated Russia is .
” ” I will convene a Russia- NATO summit tommorow to address the consequences of Russia’s actions adding”
NATO and the European Union are united to defend our values, freedom,democracy and each other’s right to choose its own part.”
To Ursula Von der Leyen, President of European Union ( EU),” We are at a watershed moment, and the three of us standing here together is yet more proof of how closely the EU and NATO are responding to the Kremlin’s action.
” The world can see that unity is our strength.Early this morning, President Putin ordered attrocious acts of aggression against the sovereign and independent country and innocent people.
” We will hold Russia accountable for this outrageous violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity . And what is at stake is not just Donbass, it’s not just Ukraine, what is at stake is the stability of Europe and the whole international order,our peace order
” President Putin chose to bring war back to Europe.,ln a determent and united response, the European Union will make it as difficult as possible for the Kremlin to pursue its aggressive actions.”
She said the Union would later today send a package of massive sanctions to European leaders for their approval addi” We are coodinated closely with our partners and allies, United States, United Kingdom,Canada and Norway but also for example,Japan and Australia.”
