Russia’s invasion of Ukraine entered the second day Friday with renewed shelling of major routes to key cities in the country.
Ukrainian capital Kyiv was under siege on Friday morning with Russian soldiers bombing military formations and civilian neighborhoods including hospitals on the suspicion that military hardwares may have been hidden there.
A member of the Ukrainian parliament, Leslia Vasylenko said Ukrainians in their numbers have resolved to defend their freedom and sovereignty until the borders of the country are secured.
According to her, their determination to give Russia a hard push had resulted in over 2000 Russian casualties while the Ukrainians suffered 137 military deaths and over 300 civilian injuries and are still counting.
Vasylenko who spoke to CNN Amanpour Friday, said tension pervades the capital city and other key areas but that the Russians are facing stiff resistance from Ukrainian military making their attempted quick run over of Kyiv delayed.
On whether regime change or occupation was prime target of Russia, Vasylenko said part of the Kremlin’s plan was to force the parliament open and compel the Lawmakers to recognize Crimea as part of Russia as well commit the parliament to stop any move towards joining the NATO and the European Union.
Earlier ,reports indicated the takeover by Russia of Antonov Airport an International cargo airport located at Kyiv northwest . The control of the airport is feared to be a landing space for Russia’s war planes and weapons to further drive the invaders ambition to further down the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
