The Department of State has warned the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP,Dr Iyiorcha Ayu from making unguarded comments in public.
Reacting in a statement on Monday to Ayu’s remarks which said that the PDP would not harass citizens with DSS if returned to power in 2003, the Service stated its disapproval of Ayu’s statement saying it is” unjustified, unfair, speculative and preposterous”
The DSS through its Spokesman, Peter Afunaya questioned the rationale behind the statement saying” except to malign and malign the people against it,” the PDP Chairman who “variously benefitted” from the service wouldn’t have made such ” unprovoked description of it’
The DSS said Ayu, having served the nation in various capacity, ‘with full complements of security details, knew that ‘the service is never used to harass the people. And if he ever used the details for negative purposes ( unknown to the Service), he should know that the times have changed.’
” Dr Ayu knows that the Service is a Frontline guardian of democracy and respects the rule of law in Nigeria. It is committed to the protection of the people.
It added that the Service will not be distracted in its sacrifices for the existence and unity of the country and urged the public to disregard Dr Ayu’s statement.
The DSS advised political parties and politicians to steer away from making unguarded comments that seek to breach public order and also cautioned against unwarranted statements against it and other security agencies.
