Governor’s fate hangs in the balance as same court determines suit demanding sack
Governor of Zamfara State,Bello Matawalle risks holding the office of governor if the threat of his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP is anything to go by.
The Party s’ move provided by the fillip of the vacation order by Abuja High Court to Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi over defection to the All Progressives Congress APC on Tuesday is said to be causing ripples in Zamfara.
Moreso, a Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed April 7 for hearing of the PDP suit seeking the removal of Governor Matawalle from office.
In the application filed before Justice Inyang Ekwo on Thursday, the PDP asked the court to declare the impeached Deputy Governor of the state, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau as replacement..
The PDP is also seeking the sack of 37 members of the National Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress APC.
Justice Ekwo fixed the suit following an application for joinder and appeal for an extension of time by lawyers to the defendants to make their submissions in the matter.
Based on the High Court Judgement that votes belong to a party platform in which a candidate is elected, coupled with the fact that the matter is before same judge who sacked Umahi, his Deputy and 17 lawmakers, the fear according to a source in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital is that the judgement would not be different from Ebonyi State.
‘”Uncertainty grips Zamfara” the source who spoke under condition of anonymity said.
Governor Matawalle parted ways with the PDP through which he was elected into office and joined the All Progressives Congress APC last year citing irreconcilable differences..
