Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has berated the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi for uncomplimentary statements against the judiciary regarding his sack by the Federal High Court in Abuja for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He has also assured Governor Umahi that PDP will prosecute the matter to its logical conclusion at the Supreme Court.
Governor Wike made the assertion today at the inauguration of the dualized and rehabilitated Eastern Bye Pass Road in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area by the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, saying the judgement of the apex court will checkmate politicians, he referred to as political harlots from cross carpeting from one political party to the other.
The Governor who observed that it is the very first time an elected governor is being dragged to court over defection from the party he was elected into office to another political party, emphasized that the conclusion of the matter will also strengthen the nation’s democracy.
He stated emphatically that PDP is formidable and ready to take back power in 2023 and also lambasted the Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu for threats against the party.
Governor Wike described as unfortunate Shaibu’s unguided comment that there is an alternative to PDP saying he should have preferred that alternative earlier when the rain was beating him after being chased out of the APC before running to the PDP, begging for shelter and protection under the umbrella.
Commenting on the road, Governor Wike took a swipe at the Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC for failing to fulfil its fifty percent counterpart fund for the road construction.
The Governor however expressed happiness that the state government has paid hundred percent of the contractual sum to the company, noting that the action of NDDC is embedded in the character of the APC- led federal government who never fulfill its promises made to Nigerians.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to continue to provide democratic dividends to Rivers people until May 29, 2023 when he will leave office as Governor..
Inaugurating the road, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, said Governor Wike’s administration has witnessed proliferation of projects in all facets of the State’s economy, that has improved the socioeconomic life of Rivers people.
Alhaji Idris noted that Governor Wike has changed the face of development and restore the confidence of Rivers people in leadership through the provision of dividends of democracy under the PDP.
He added that Governor Wike remains the best all round performing Governor in Nigeria and asset to the PDP and urged him to sustain the tempo .
Earlier, in his remarks and project description, the State Commissioner for Works, Elloka Tasie Amadi said the road with a total length of three-point-three-four-eight kilometers and fourteen-point-six meters wide, as well as concrete median, drains on both sides, sidewalks and street lightings will cater for the volume of vehicles that plies the road.
