President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday clarified the challenges facing the All Progressives Congress APC that might threaten the party’s status and the Mach 16 convention and gave immediate direction to way forward.
In a 7 paragraph statement, the president said recent events in the party showed that the party” is faced with multiplicity of court cases pending against it in various courts across the country.,As a result of this, the party faces the possibility and prospect of the invalidation of all its activities and actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.”
According to him, the party has been unable to effect change in leadership of the CECC “in a way that is inclusive, legal and respectful of the time set and required for giving the INEC sufficient notice of the time and venue for holding its convention.”
Against the background that the foregoing controversies may jeopardise the chances at elections, Buhari therefore, ordered that the CECC returns to status quo with the “Buni- led CECC allowed to proceed with all necessary preparations to hold the convention as planned unfailingly,- on 26th March,2022. “
He urged warring members of the progressive Governors Forum along with their supporters to sheath their swords and ” desist from any behavior or utterances that will likely lead to disunity in the ranks of the party and ultimately, jeopardize transition to the convention. “
