Akwa Ibom flagship,,Ibom Air is to launch 10 brand new Airbuses A 200-300 to promote economic growth in the state, South South and South East regions.
Governor of Akwa-Ibom State,Udom Emmanuel says disclosed this during the Maiden 2022 Honour Nite of the South East South South Professionals of Nigeria, SESSPAN, in Lagos.
The governor, one of the honorees, who was represented by Charles Udoh, the commissioner for environment and solid minerals Akwa-Ibom State, while delivering the dinner speech based on Ibom Air and South East South South Development, said that the airline signed agreement with the management of Airbus last November during the Dubai Air Show to make the purchase, which would bring the fleet of Ibom Air to 17 operating across the country.
While speaking on the economic developmental potential of the organization, the governor stated that the contributions of the South Easterners in the South South region and vice versa cannot be overemphasized, noting that major businesses including real estate and supermarkets in Uyo are owned by the Easterners.
He also noted that the resilience and doggedness of his administration, through the Ibom Air is fast turning Akwa-Ibom into the tourism capital of Nigeria. According to him, “The Ibom Air has opened new vistas in tourism. Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, has become the emerging tourism capital of Nigeria, adding the peace, serenity, enticing cuisines, cultural and historic sites that abound in the state have been attracting thousands of people monthly to the state and economic activities between the two regions have been enhanced.
“Ibom Air has made movement and economic engagements between the South East South South less cumbersome. People in the two regions can fly in from Lagos, Abuja to Enugu, and Enugu to Uyo, Enugu to Yenogoa, Calabar to Abuja, thus deepening economic activities and interactions between the two regions,” he said
The governor noted that the Airline is a fulfillment of one of his campaign promises; to open Akwa-Ibom State for development and economic growth through land, sea and air.
Ibom Air was launched on 7th June,2019 , The Airline has since commencement of operations recorded giant strides in the airline industry .
