The Deputy Governor of Rivers State,Dr Ipalibo Banigo has called on christians to depend solely on God for help to find everlasting mercy and joy.
Delivering a sermon to celebrate Mothering Sunday at St Cyprians Church, Hospital Road,Port Harcourt , Dr Banigo said God helps those who are passionate about the kingdom of God.
Citing several books in the Bible that dwells on God’s help including Isaiah,Hosea Deuteronomy,Job and Psalms, the deputy governosr noted that God will not fail to help those who rely on him as she charged” Take your problems to the Throne of Grace to find help”
She however said that those who live sinful lives will not find help from God..
Dr Banigo faulted the attitude of people who seek the help of Man to connect them to achieve a purpose and said that what they required is divine connection which is leaning on God who alone provides help.
She prayed to God to help mothers facing challenges in their areas of need.
Highlights of the programme included honouring of 2022 Mothering Sunday family and presentation of prizes .
In her remarks,recipient of the award of Mother of the Year 2022,Mrs Nancy Tombiri AKA “Mama Bayelsa” thanked the women for finding her worthy of the honour.
Mrs Tombiri recalled that she was married to her husband, an educationist at age 16 and had 6 children whom she gave the best education could offer.
She added that she was able to achieve her goals through hardwork in contract works and trade and had two bakeries through which she was able to send 4 of her children to school abroad.
Mama Bayelsa was described by her husband and those who spoke about her as a kind woman who no onlyt looked after her children and those related to her so well but extended same gesture to members of the Odi community ,her home town and non indigenes who came in contact with her.
Prizes were given to the best performing women groups.
Group 4 was announced winner of the first prize while group 1 emerged second.
Mrs Bighemi(Baby)Inko- Tariah received the winners cup on behalf of Group 4.
