The Chief Imam of Apo legislative quarters mosque, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, has been suspended from his cleric duties by the mosque’s committee over his sermon on Friday, April 1.
The Committee in its suspension letter to Sheikh Khalid, accused him of going against the tenets of Islam by encouraging people not to vote at the upcoming elections until the insecurity in the land is addressed.
The letter signed by the Chairman of the committee, Senator Saidu Dansadau, in part reads, “I am informing you that you are suspended as the Imam and as a member of parliament mosque Apo Abuja from today 2/4/2022 until further notice.
“This action was taken because of Friday’s sermon on 1/04/2022 where you advised people not to vote in 2023 until government answers some questions”, It stated.
The fiery Imam in his sermon, had accused the government of not doing enough to tackle the prevailing insecurity.
He said; “insecurity has become business in Nigeria, the blood of the poor has become campaign materials”.
This is not the first time religious leaders and opinion moulders have been showing concern on matters of security and good governance.
A cross section of Nigerians interviewed by our Correspondent, has overwhelmingly condemned the suspension order, stating that, ” there is nothing wrong for leaders both religious and political, to advise the government on addressing prevailing conditions affecting the people”.
In another development, the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Eunoch Adeboye, urged Nigerians to pray for peace in Kaduna, being the epicentre of Banditry of recent.
In a sermon on Sunday, 3rd April, 2022, Pastor Adeboye listed three things Nigerians should be concerned about before the 2023 elections.
” They are, prayer for Peace in Kaduna, those engaged in Oil theft, and Debt Payment”.
The influencer man of God prayed that God should expose them all.
Pastor Adeboye told the congregants that, he remains apolitical as he belongs to no political party, adding that all political parties have members in RCCG.
Our Correspondent who fellowships in one of the parishes in Abuja reports that Daddy GO as his fondly called, asked the members to count him out of politics, that his calling from God is to be a Pastor.
