Last week, our reporters went to the field to find out from the police on the street why they were planning on going on strike. One of them, Issy as popularly called said it was important for them to seek the attention of the Nigerian President and Lawmakers to know their grievances.
” This strike is neccessary for the police particularly those of us at the middle and lower levels. Look at my level in the Police but I earn low. My salary is not up to N100,000 , My counterparts in FRSC and NSCDC earn more than us, our lives are constantly exposed to danger, It is difficult to pay rents,It is difficult to feed our families,It is difficult to train our children”
The other named Baba said” We cannot continue like this,Our barracks are filthy with rats, cockroaches and repilties littering the areas 24/7.
” If they don’t want us to serve they should tell us so but to reduce us to this level where we cannot do much for our families is unacceptable.
” Why can’t they place the police on a special salary scale? I think the government doesn’t want the police to live like human beings” he said
