Former Minister of Education,Oby Ezekwesil has reacted to the sudden demise of Gospel Artist,Osinachi Nwachukwu popularly known for her gospel lyric” Ekwueme”.
The former Minister who is saddened by reports that Osinachi died as a result of domestic violence took to her Twitter page and called for probe of the singer’s death to ensure that justice is given.
” The death of Osinachi Nwachukwu of the epic,” Ekwueme” worship song really hit hard. To read allegations of spousal abuse worsens the pain. I hope the truth is unearthed and justice given”.
Ezekwesili urged” everyone including the churches to take the issues of Violence Against Women seriously, Urgently. adding” Globally,a 2018 study shows nearly 1 in 3, or 30% of women are Victims”
Osinachi died on Friday of alleged complications from injuries sustained through domestic violence
Reports following her death had earlier indicated that the singer died of Throat cancer. Few hours on, her colleagues in the gospel music industry claimed she died as a result of injuries inflicted on her by her spouse.Notable among them was Frank Edwards.
Edwards,a popular gospel artist alleged the late Ekwueme singer married an abusive husband who doubled as her manager wanted the deceased wife to do only as he says.
In an Instagram video, Edward said” One time in a studio just because she wanted to record the song in Igbo against his will,She did not do anything on her own”. he said.
Osinachi was 42 at the time of her passing in a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja.
She was a lead singer in Abuja- based Dunamis International Gospel Centre with Paul Enenche as Presiding Pastor.
Her husband and alleged abuser,Mr Peter Nwachukwu is a minister of God. They are blessed with four children,3 boys and a girl.
