…. As more Nigerians fault cost of APC forms
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential expression of interest and nomination forms get the attention of a frontline aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as his campaign organisation dishes out the required N100million for purchase of forms for the APC leader.
The Director General of the Tinubu Support Organisation( TSO),Aminu Suleiman on his Twitter page on Wednesday said he has signed a N100 million cheque for the purchase of the APC nomination form for Tinubu.
His Tweet reads” I ,Hon. Aminu Suleiman ( DG TSO) will like to officially state that I have signed A Cheque to the tune of 100 million Naira, for the purchase of Nomination and Expression of Interest form for our Leader@officialABAT God bless#BAT2023″
Earlier, the APC had at its National Executive Committee( NEC )meeting in Abuja announced the costs of nomination and expression of interest forms for various offices pegging presidential at N100 million.
Shortly after the announcement, civil society groups and individuals took the party to the cleaners
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria HURIWA asked security agencies to arrest and probe any aspirant of the party who purchased form at the cost of N100 million.
It said the ruling party has ruined the national economy and was determined to enthrone corrupt politicians who, when elected, would first recoup their huge investments not minding the plight of the citizens.
Renowned journalist and politician, Ogbonna Nwuke said the inflation of nomination form for aspirants especially those seeking presidential interest and nomination was outrageous.
” It is outrageous and evidence that the APC does not recognize the fact that Nigerians are in pains. The economy is not blossoming, the earning power of the people has reduced, yet, APC is going for the collection of excessive funds.
” It is proof that Nigeria will never depart from money politics”
Another journalist,Iliyasu Gadu said it was disheartening that a party supposedly fighting corruption could come up with a bogus sum of N100 million for nomination form.
He said” It is a sad commentary on a party that canvassed and won elections in 2015 on the mantra of fighting corruption to ask it’s aspirants to its presidential ticket to pay 100 million naira. In a country that is ravaged by debilitating poverty in which millions live on less than one dollar a day,100 million could mean a whole lot to millions of Nigerians. Any aspirant paying that much for the presidential nomination must have gotten it through proceeds of corruption and must thus be asked to explain.
“That this could be happening under a party led by President Buhari who is famously known for condemning and acting against corruption speaks volumes of his supposed commitment to this cause”.
