The Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA has arrested a poultry farmer in consumption of Indian hemp seeds
The suspect who was paraded on Saturday in Kaduna said that the Indian hemp seeds in his possession were for the consumption of his chickens to make them grow fast and healthy.
He told newsmen on Sunday that he mixed the weed seeds with the birds food when feeding the chicken adding that he only fed the chickens once before the NDLEA operatives seized the drugs in his house and arrested him.He also confessed that he used to smoke the weed.but remorseful of his wrong deeds
” The situation I have put myself is shameful,I promise not to repeat it in my life.”
The Commander of the NDLEA in Kaduna State,Umar Adoro said the suspect was arrested on April 17 with 3kg of Indian hemp at Markafi Road in Rigasa area of Igabi Local Government Area of the state
Adoro said the suspect” is one of the notorious drug dealers in the state We have been searching for him for long. What helped us is the Ramadan fasting period when drug dealers operate only at night.
” When they are done peddling drugs in the night and are not expecting any patron in the morning,they oversleep and we take advantage to arrest them
” We have arrested about two of them in such manner” he said.
The NDLEA commander decried the use of illicit drugs on animals citing side effects and advised those with the belief that it helped them to grow fast and healthy to desist from the practice.
