The Vice Chancellor, Nigeria Maritime Univetsity, Okerenkoko Gbaramatu, Delta State, Professor Emmanuel Munakurogha Adiogio, has visited the Commandant NDA Major General IM Yusuf, to seek mutual collaboration.
The Vice Chancellor who was received at the NDA headquarters Afaka, noted that his visit to the Academy is aimed at seeking for collaboration between his institution and NDA in areas of research and manpower development in maritime sector, that will be of mutual beneficial to the two institutions.
Also Speaking at the event, the Director of Academic planning (DAP) NMU, Associate Professor Tolumoye Tuaweri, said the Maritime University was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria with the core mandate of meeting the maritime manpower needs of the country.
In his brief, he highlighted some specific areas that NMU has the capability to partner with NDA in Postgraduate Studies. These programmes include Maritime Security and Safety, Maritime Technology Regulation and Policies, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Transportation Management, Terminal Operations, Shipping and Maritime Operations, amongst others. During the presentation, the Director of Academic Planing Nigeria Maritime Univetsity assured NDA that NMU will do its best to sustain the high standards in which the Academy operates, while looking forward for the signing of the MoU between the two institutions.
In his response to the Vice Chancellor NMU, the Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General IM Yusuf, noted that “No institution can stand alone therefore, collaborations are necessary and you can count on our contributions and support”..
Also the Commandant NDA added that the Academy will enter into the collaboration with NMU in order to help broaden the scope of learning and research as well as improve service delivery that will be beneficial to the two institutions and the country at large.
In his closing remarks, the Commandant NDA expressed his appreciation to the Vice Chancellor NMU for coming up with such an initiative and assured him of the Academy’s readiness to provide all the necessary assistance needed for the smooth signing of MoU between the institutions.
The Nigeria Maritime University Okerenkoko, Gbaramatu in Delta State was established in 2015 by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The University was established in response to the chronic shortage of professional human capital and global competitive technical know how in the maritime industry and economy.
The mission of the Nigeria Maritime University is to provide excellent facilities and faculties for training, research, and production of maritime human resources and equipment where staff and students can achieve their professional goals and support Nigeria to exploit her maritime endowments to become a leading player in the world’s knowledge-driven economy.
