As part of efforts to reduce the rate of Maternal Mortality in Delta State, the Rotary Club of Effurun Gateway has distributed free Delivery Kits to pregnant women at the Ugborikoko Primary Health Center, Effurun, Delta State.
President of the Rotary Club of Effurun Gateway Joan Okoh who led members of her club to deliver the gifts to the women said the gesture is a fulfillment of one of the areas of focus in Rotary to improve health of the mother and child, which is observed every month of April in the Rotary year.
Okoh said “Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.
We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented.”
The Chief Matron at the Ugborikoko Primary Health Center, while educating pregnant and nursing mothers on the importance of breastfeeding the baby, how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission, and protect themselves and their children from disease, commended the Rotary Club of Effurun Gateway for always executing lives changing project in their health facility. She said the gesture will encourage pregnant women to take seriously attending ante natal thereby reducing mother and child deaths especially during and after birth.
The pregnant and nursing mothers while receiving the free delivery kits, expressed joy and commended the Rotary Club of Effurun Gateway for the free delivery kits which contain various mother and child toiletries.
Our correspondent Precious Ahiakwo-Ovie reports that over 35 pregnant and nursing mothers benefitted from the free distribution of the Delivery Kits by the club
