Students Community secondary school Rumudomanya will be resuming to meet a gift of a new block of classrooms and 30 classroom desks donated to the school by the Rotary Club of Port City Valley.
President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt City Valley Nomso Ogbuefi during the Commissioning of the project said the gesture was part of the club’s efforts to improve basic education in Rivers State.
Rotarian Ogbuefi said “Basic education and literacy is one of The Rotary Foundation’s six areas of focus. We know that basic education and literacy are essential for reducing poverty, improving health, encouraging community and economic development, and promoting peace. So our club embarked on this project to assist the government in their vision of promoting improving the education sector”.
On her part, Assistant Governor of the Rotary International district 9141, Zone one, Blessing Timothy while Commissioning the block of classrooms and 30 classroom desks, said the gesture will improve the learning experience of the students that will result in better performance in their studies.
“Your school is privileged to have the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt City Valley coming to your aids by giving you a beautiful classrooms, desks, white board and others. Rotary is ready to do anything to enhance your learning abilities to ensure you are comfortable in your classrooms and give in your best. Now with these facilities you can’t come to school clean and leave dirty because of your classrooms are not in order. We expect to see that these facilities are maintained and sustained, that’s the appreciation we expect from you”, she said.
The principal of the community secondary school RumudomanyaChris Okpara described the donations by Rotary as a milestone.
“this means a lot to us. And this is also a giant stride towards the developmental structures of the school, we are very grateful. Government did it’s best to put every infrastructure in place here in this school, but thieves come in here and destroy and steal these things. We need security here in this school to protect this facilities and we need more classrooms too. We are happy to know these students will resume to see this beautiful gifts from Rotary Club of Port Harcourt City Valley”, the principal said.
Our correspondent Precious Ahiakwo-Ovie reports that an Interact club of community secondary school Rumuodumanya was chartered to energize and inspire young leaders ages 12-18 through service and encourage them to become responsible global citizens.
Our correspondent also reports that as part of the Rotary International global efforts in keeping polio disease at zero in Nigeria, the club raised a KeepPolio@zero signage at the Rumuodumanya junction as sensitization in that community.
