No fewer than 15 people are reported killed in Sokoto as Moslem extremists take to the streets to demand the immediate release of detained killers of Ms Deborah Samuel.
Ms Samuel was a second year student of Home Economics in Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto.She was allegedly killed by her school mates over religious altercations on WhatsApp platform.
Following the tension and outcry the murder of Ms Samuel generated, the police apprehended some of those said to have had a hard in the death of the student.
The arrest and detention of the culprits led to street protests by Moslem extremists allegedly on the orders of the State Chief Imam, Sheikh Mansour who called on the Nigerian Police to release the detained killers of Ms Samuel without delay.
Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Saturday imposed a 24- hour curfew on the state capital but this was breached by the protesters who confronted security personnel ordered to stop the protest
The protesters are said to be bent on burning the palace of the Sultan over his condemnation of the gruesome killing of the female student.
As of now, the situation is very dire as the protesters are reportedly lurking around with the intent to set ablaze the Catholic Cathedral and the Radio and Tv stations.
