..As part of efforts to support and improve basic education in Rivers State, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North has donated twenty-five desks to the community secondary school Rumukrushi.
President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North Kingsley Ikeokwu said the desks donation was made to fill in almost empty classrooms where the students sit on bare dusty floor to learn.
He said the project tagged Dusk to Desk is one of the club’s star annual projects aimed at improving learning environment in rural schools in the state.
On her part, Rotary international Assistant Governor zone ten in District 9141, Adure Odu while Commissioning the Dusk to Desk project commended the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North for putting smiles on the faces of the students and school authorities.
AG Adure said the gesture will give the students a remarkable learning experience because they are now comfortably sitted in their classrooms on desks and not on a dusty floor.
She encouraged the students and school authorities to ensure good utility and maintenance of the desks so as to serve them longer.
Meanwhile the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North has chartered an Interact club of community secondary school Rumukrushi in the school.
AG Adure Odu while presenting the charter certificate to the new executives of the interact club explained that the Interact is a club for youth ages 12-18 who want to connect with others in their community or school.
“Interact club members have fun while carrying out service projects like cleaning the school, planting trees around the school and learning about the world through fellowship”, she said.
In his response, vice principal Admin of the community secondary school Rumukrushi Alex Okuku while expressing joy promised that the school authorities will protect and maintain the desks. He commended the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North for always reaching out to the school with life changing projects. He said the desks will contain over seventy five students.
Charter President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North in his remarks commended the school for turning out in their numbers to receive the gifts.
Our correspondent Precious Ahiakwo reports that the club also Chartered the interact club of Kumoni International School Woji, and presented the charter certificate to the new young executives.
