The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu says sensitive materials will no longer be kept at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Yakubu stated this on Saturday at an election dialogue, entitled ‘The Electorate’, organised by Enough is Enough (EiE).
He explained that the decision was informed by “current circumstances”, adding an alternative will be found.”
Yakubu said the new measures would be adopted as early as the June 16 governorship election in Ekiti state
The development comes amid a growing concern over safety of sensitive materials at the CBN following the alleged partisan position of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele was said to have picked the All Progressives Congress APC N100m expression of interest and nomination forms while also dragging INEC,APC and the Artoney General of the Federation to Court to allow him to contest election without resigning from office.
