President Muhammadu Buhari has met with Governor’s elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to determine who becomes the running mate of APC Presidential flagbearer,Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Tinubu won the party’s presidential primary last Wednesday after garnering the most votes at the tensed special convention at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
The meeting which held at the presidential Villa had Kebbi State Governor, Bagudu,Borno State Governor,Prof Babagana Zulum, Kaduna State Governor,Nasir El- Rufai and Yobe State Governor,Mai Mala Buni in attendance.
Others reportedly in the meeting include Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru Chief of Staff to the President,Prof. Ibrahim Gambari and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha
The urgent search and pick of a running mate became imperative following the June 17 deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for political parties to submit the list of their presidential candidates and running mates.
While Tinubu is rumoured to have picked a former governor of Borno State as running mate, reports say some of the Northern Governors are pushing for Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum and Nasir El- Rufai while the CPC faction of the APC desires the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Abubakar Malami or Buhari’s kinsman and serving Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika for the Number 2 position
Yet another report says a Christian Northern Governor from North Centralr is also in the list of consideration.
With the clock ticking towards the deadline, It is not clear yet who the ruling party has chosen to compliment the party’s standard bearer.
