Pensioneers in the Rivers State Public Service on Thursday gathered at the Ministry of Justice Hall, Secretariat Complex,Port Harcourt to submit documents required for processing of payment of outstanding gratuities and monthly pension.
The development is in line with a circular issued on June 14,2022 directing all those who had retired up to 2014 and next of kin to deceased retirees to come with relevant documents for commencement of payment saying the state governor, Nyesom Wike “has graciously approved the immediate commencement of payment of outstanding Gratuity, Monthly Pension Arrears and Death benefits for Retirees in the Rivers State Public Service”.
Our reporter who monitired the exercise on Thursday said no fewer than 4000 pensioners and next of kin to deceased Retirees responded to the circular and registered their presence at the venue of the payment process but that the process was disrupted by an electrical fault from one of the air conditioners in the hall.
According to him, the said airconditioner blew and emitted thick smoke which engulfed the hall.
With the development, the pensioneers left and came back Friday to submit their documents for payment.
According to him,a good number of pensioneers who showed up were sick and barely walked..
