Zamfara State Government has asked residents of the state to pick up arms and defend themselves from the incessant bandits activities in the state.
The Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Magaji Dosara in a statement in Gusau said the directive ” followed increase in the activities of bandits in various parts of the state and the government commitment to ensure adequate security and protection of lives and property.
He said that ‘the act of terrorism has been a source of worry and concern to the people and the government of the state which is why it has resolved “to deal decisively with the situation”
” Government has henceforth, directed individuals to prepare and obtain guns to defend themselves against the bandits,as government has directed the state commissioner of Police to issue license to all those who qualify and are wishing to obtain such guns to defend themselves.
The government has also approved the immediate closure of all markets and Kara in Mada,Womaka and Riwan Bore Districts of Gusau Local Government Area of the state as well as Yansoto emirate in Tsafe local government
In addition, Government has banned the operations of motorcycles and ordered the closure of all petrol filling stations in the affected local government areas adding that anyone caught’ riding motorcycle within the area is considered as bandit and thereby direct security agencies to shoot such persons at sight.” The statement added.
