Anambra State Police Command says it has arrested a 29- year – old woman who stole her neighbors three- year- old child with the intention of selling her.
The suspect,Miss Chikwendu Umegbaka,a native of Isinkwo Abaomege in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was arrested on Saturday at 4:30 p.m in Okpoko, Onitsha .
Confirming the incident, the Command’s Public Relations Officer( PPRO),DSP Ikenga Tochukwu said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a neighbour to the parent of the child.
The PPRO said when the suspect was arrested she initially denied knowing the whereabouts of the child but confessed to the crime of stealing with intention of selling her after further interrogation.
The spokesman said the child has been reunited with her family while further action concerning the matter would be made known later.
