Niger Police Command says it has rarrested one of the inmates who escaped during July 5 jailbreak in the Kuje custodial centre in Abuja.
In a statement on Monday in Minna, the state capital, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun said the inmate,Kazeem Murtala was recaptured by a patrol team on surveillance between the General Hospital in Suleja and Bakassi at 8:30 p m on July 9
He said based on credible information, the patrol team stormed an identified compound and arrested the 54- year – old fugitive.
On interrogation, the inmate confessed to have escaped during the Kuje custodial centre jailbreak . He said he had been in the custodial centre for two years for an offence he committed..
The statement said that the Commissioner of Police in the state,CP Monday Bala Kurya has commended the team for a job well done .
It added that the CP has also directed that the inmate be handback to the custodial center which has been complied with .
He thanked members of the public for the useful information which led to the arrest of the inmate and urged them not to relent in reporting suspicious movements to the police.
