Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says he will speak soon about recent events in the Peoples Democratic Party PDP
Wike, who disclosed this through a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Kevin Ebiri in Port Harcourt said ” I will speak soon and Nigerians will know the actual truth that has transpired in recent times “
The statement is in reference to Atiku’s interview on Arise Television aired on Friday.
In the interview, the PDP presidential candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar had denied that the PDP Commitee on selection of a vice presidential candidate voted overwhelmingly for Wike. He claimed that the commitee submitted names from which he chose the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
Atiku said ” Governor Wike was not rejected . Nobody was rejected in the party But you must understand that it’s the prerogative of the candidate to pick his running mate.,a running mate he believes he can work with amicably, and then also to deliver the policies of the party , and also try to unify the party.
” Governor Wike is a brilliant politician . He is courageous, tenacious . I believe he has a future in the political evolution of this country . It’s not a question of rejection . Certainly, not, I think it’s too harsh a word to say that we rejected Governor Wike “.
Governor Wike ran for office of President and came second behind the former Vice President in the PDP Presidential primary decided in May at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Atiku emergence followed the withdrawal of the presidential race by the Governor of Sokoto State,Aminu Tambuwal a few minutes before voting commenced.
In the process of picking a vice presidential candidate of the party, Wike reportedly gathered 14 votes against Okowa’s 3.
But Atiku decided to ignore the popular will of the committee and settled for Okowa saying he wanted someone that had the qualities of a president he could work with.
