
The Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU) has extended its five month strike by four more weeks following failure of the Federal Government to address lingering issues in the Memorandum of Action( MoA) within its own timelines.
This is contained in a statement issued by the President,Prof.Emmanuel Osodeke on Monday after a meeting of the union on Sunday night.
The Union said it was giving government more time “to conclude the process of renegotiating the 2009FGN/ ASUU Agreement , deploy the University Transparency and Accountability Solution( UTAS ), pay outstanding arrears of Earned Academic Allowances ( EAA), release agreed sum of money for the revitalisation of public universities ( Federal and States), address proliferation of governance issues in state universities , settle promotion arrears, release withheld salaries of academics and pay outstanding third party deductions that led to the initial roll- over strike on 14th February,2022.”
While It appreciates the groundswell of support for the union’s principled demand for a globally competitive university education for Nigeria, it said the non signing of the draft renegotiated agreement more than one month it was concluded by the Prof. Nimi Briggs- led Commitee is further tasking the patience of ASUU members nationwide “.
“The roll – over strike action is with effect from 12:01 on Monday,Ist August 2022,It said.
