
Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has returned to custody following the adjournment of trial and refusal of the court to grant him bail.
Ekweremadu appeared in a UK court Thursday over offences bordering
on alleged human trafficking and organ harvesting ,
The former Deputy Senate President and his wife, Beatrice were arrested in June by the London Metropolitan Police and charged with conspiracy to arrange, facilitate travel of another person with a view to harvesting the organs of the victim
The Ekweremadu’s first appeared before the Uxbridge magistrates’ court in London, United Kingdom, where they denied all the charges against them but were denied bail. and remanded in custody while the case was adjourned to July 7 and later August 4, 2022.
On July 22, nearly one month after they were charged, Beatrice, Ekweremadu’s wife, was granted bail under strict conditions, following an application filed by her counsel.But a similar bail application for her husband was denied by the court.
The lawmaker is to remain in custody until October 31 when his trial resumes.
