The National Union of Electricity Employees ( NUEE) has shut down major power stations across the country in compliance with the directive of a nation -wide strike by its leadership.
The union, Tuesday directed its members to go on strike over poor condition of service and unpaid entitlements by the Transmission Company of Nigeria ( TCN).
Following the threat of strike,TCN appealed to the union to suspend the industrial action saying that the demands listed by the union were being taken care of.
Similarly, Minister of State for Power,Mr Goddy Jeddy Egba asked the union to give the government two weeks within which to resolve the issues,but the appeal was rebuffed as the union shut down major power stations on Wednesday Morning.
Likewise,the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company said in a statement that it is currently experiencing power disruption due to the ongoing strike.
Power disruptions have also been reported in Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Kano and in the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja.
It was gathered that the Minister of Employment, Chris Ngige has scheduled a meeting with the union in Abuja at 4. p.m on Wednesday in an effort to resolve the issues.
