A security consultant to Ebony State Government,Chief Stanley Okoro -Emegha has said that the August meeting of women at the Peoples Club on Saturday was disrupted to secure the state from any form of attack.
Emegha who is also the chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC in the state told journalists that the disruption became neccessary following a security report received by operatives that gunmen will use the place to attack the state
. Meanwhile, several women groups in Ebonyi State have protested against the disruption of the August meeting by the state security outfit,Ebubeagu.describing the development as painful. They claimed the event hold yearly for the purpose of developing the South East..
One of the groups,,Ebonyi Federated Women Organization (EFWO), has petitioned Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA) and other human rights organizations over the alleged disruptiion.
The women stated that operatives’ invaded the premises of People’s Club along Abakaiki/Enugu Expressway, where the meeting was holding with the theme “Women, Nation Builders”.
Speaking on behalf of other protesting women , President of Umuada Ebonyi Women,Mrs Charity Chukwuemeka said the disruption infringed on the women’s fundamental rights.
