The Bible Society of Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to assist churches with the Bible.
This remark was made by the Chairman of the Bible Society of Nigeria Rivers/Bayelsa Area, Elder Omoni Ayo-Tamuno last Sunday while addressing members of the African Episcopal Methodist Zion Church, Obuama in Degema Local Government Area as part of the 2022 Bible Week Celebration.
Elder Ayo-Tamuno who stated that the Society had always supported Churches by making the Bible – the Written Word of God available, frowned at the attitude of a cross section of Heads of Churches/Pastors that continued to see the Society as Stranger in the Christian Community.
He asked ” Is there any Church or Pastor that can function without the Bible and said none?” and therefore appealed to leaders of churches to cooperate and assist the Society to function effectively.
The Chairman pointed out that the call became imperative to enable the Society to improve in the area of making Bibles available and translating the Bible into more indigenous Nigerian languages.
Elder Ayo-Tamuno also called on the Traditional Institution to support and sponsor the translation of their languages to further boost and preserve their culture and tradition.
He maintained that at any time, language remained the true identity of any people, adding that the translation of the Bible was in the right direction to promote evangelism and project the culture of our people at all times.
The Chairman then called on the leadership and the led to sincerely support the Society that had in the past created the platform for the Church to raise fund for the successful completion of its Auditorium.
He told the Church that the Obuama Community had played a leading role in the translation of the Kalabari Language Bible and stressed the need for sustained cooperation with the Society.
He further called on the African Episcopal Methodist Zion Church, Obuama to take the front seat towards the reestablishment of the Obuama Bible Society Auxiliary that had not been functioning in the past 10 or more years.
Responding, the Minister in charge of the Church, Rev Rebi Levi assured that the Church would henceforth cooperate with the Society to successfully achieve its divine mandate.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of Bible Society literatures to the Minister.
