.says Party leadership not been fair to Wike
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says his support for Wike’s stance is unflinching contrary to media reports particularly the screaming headlines from This Day Newspaper.
Ortom, who revealed that he just came back from a trip to London with the Rivers Governor, said the Peoples Democratic Party PDP had not been fair to Wike in the handling of the outcome of the Presidential primary and after the party convention.
“On the headlines from This Day, that I have splitted with Wike,I just came back from London with Wike this morning. We are friends,I still maintain my stance on what I said, I have not moved away from there, and I still sympathize with Wike for the injustices meted on him.
“Politics is about interest and where your interest is not protected, you have the right to protest, and I think that is what I’d happening
“The party leadership have not been fair to Governor Wike based on the activities that took place during the convention and after the convention. They’ve not been able to deploy adequately the internal party conflict resolution mechanism to resolve those issues and I sympathize with him and I still stand with him that let the leadership of the party at the national level do the same thing.” Ortom said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the online media was awash with banner headlines claiming that the Benue Governor had shifted camp to Ayu, the National Chairman of the PDP.
The media had based their reports on a statement by Ortom ‘s Press Secretary ,Mr Nathaniel Ikyur to a Social – Cultural group in Benue state who had accused the governor of betraying Ayu, his kinsman,
In the said statement, Ikyur merely drew the attention of the group to the support the governor gave to Ayu that made him to emerge the National Chairman without opposition.
While the Press Statement was silent on Ortom ending his support for his friend Wike, It said that the governor will stand with Ayu and the candidates of the PDP.
