……. Wike reportedly maintained Ayu must go campaign
The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) on Thursday met with the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike at the Rivers Governor’s Lodge ,Asokoro, Abuja in an effort to resolve the lingering crisis in the PDP.
At the meeting , Atiku was said to have asked Wike to down the hatchet and return to the fold to ensure the party’s victory in 2023, but Wike reportedly maintained his stand over the previous agreement which centered on the resignation of the National Chairman of the party,Dr Iyorcha Ayu.
Current Matters was privileged to gather that the Rivers Governor told his visitor that he( Atiku) reneged on their agreement in their London meeting that he was going to speak to Ayu to resign.
.
He reminded Atiku how he promised the Wike camp that he would talk to Ayu and would get back to them within a week but failed to do so.
Wike however, told Atiku that he has heard him and would get back to his people on the outcome of the meeting before taking any decision.
The Wike camp had distanced itself from the Atiku Presidential campaign council citing regional imbalance in power distribution.
They also blamed the candidate and other leaders of the party for deliberately breaching agreement and fuelling the crisis in the party.
