As part of efforts to improve Basic Education in Rivers State, the Rotary Club of Woji Town has provided twenty new desks and refurbished seventy-six old desks to the community Secondary School, Rumurolu in Obio Akpor Local government area.
President of the Rotary Club of Woji Town Maryrose Alozor during the commissioning of the project said the club also provided two thousand liters water tank and fixed water pump cable and protector for water Borehole.

Alozor said the gesture was a trade mark of Rotary International’s holistic approach to improving the learning environment and balancing academics with other important non-curriculum activities.
‘When we visited this school, we saw that some of the pupils were sitting on bare floor to learn and some of the desks were spoilt and can’t be used. Even we realized their water system is bad while the Borehole cables were lying on bare floors and has even shocked a pupil. We fixed buried the cables, provided two thousand liters water Tank, got three new water taps and provided twenty news desks, refurbished seventy-six old ones and gave the school eleven whiteboards with magnetic dusters and markers for their eleven classrooms. The projects fell under the Rotary Areas of Focus: Basic Education and Literacy, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Disease Prevention and Treatment. We are fulfilled to touch the lives of the children positively” Maryrose said..

On her part Assistant Governor, Rotary International District 9141, Sandra Akaralo while commissioning the project said the facilities will improve the quality of the study environment in the school, thus improving the quality of education.
She said, “With these facilities provided by the Rotary Club of Woji Town, then the students will be able to focus and concentrate more on their studies with teachers facing fewer distractions. More importantly, they also affect the health, behavior and engagement of the students. Thus, these adequate facilities will make it easier for the school to deliver better education. We pray the facilities provided today will be well utilized and maintain by the school authorities.”
Meanwhile, the Club’s Service Project Chair, Rotarian Olushola Asalu said “We believe that when you are given quality education at the primary level, it gives the child good opportunity to advance further in life. So, there is so much emphasis on quality education at basic level and that is one of the cornerstones of Rotary International,”
