Members of the Niger State House of Assembly, have issued 28 hours ultimatum to the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to fix the Minna-Bida road, or risk a vote of no confidence from the House.
The warning of the lawmakers came during plenary following a motion moved by Hon. Mohammed Haruna, under the Matters of Urgent Public Importance rule of the House, had called on the Executive arm of the government to expedite action on fixing the bad portions of the Minna/Bida road.
Haruna told the house how he had to disguise himself to avoid being attacked by commuters that were stranded in the state over the weekend having noticed the frustrations and anger on their faces.
In his contribution, the member representing Mokwa constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Shaba Gbara, said the inability of the state government to rehabilitate the road was “shameful” saying the importance of the road can not be overemphasized.
“We are calling on the government to wake up to her constitutional responsibility before the people turn against it,” he advised
The house thereafter resolved that the Executive arm of government should with immediate effect fix the bad portions of the road.
