Rivers state House of Assembly has derecognised Celestine Omehia as a former governor of the state.
This followed a motion sponsored by Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the Leader of the House and member representing Obio – Akpor Constituency 1,
Amaewhule said that at the time the House called for his recognition,it was yet to receive a copy of the Supreme Court ruling that Omehia’s government did not exist in the eye of the law .

The lawmaker prayed that the earlier resolution recognising him as former governor should be rescinded while he should be made to refund all entitlements including N600million in benefits and 96.5million in pension within seven days.
The House has therefore directed Governor Nyesom Wike to assent to derecognize Omehia.
Omehia seizes to be addressed as ‘His Excellency and other titles associated with his earlier recognition have also stopped.
Omehia is to refund all monetary entitlements he has so far received from the Rivers State Government as of September 2022, including the sum of 600 million in benefits, and 96.5 in pension within seven days.
