After nine months,the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU has agreed to suspend its strike action to protest the non implementation of the 2009 Memorandum of Understanding reached with the Federal Government.
The suspension was reportedly disclosed by some members of the National Executive Council of the union on Friday morning after an all night meeting at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja.

Though the call -off of the strike action is yet to be officially announced,some of the officials who confirmed the development to reporters said an official statement would be issued by the President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke any moment directing its members nationwide to resume academic activities
Several meetings held between the union and representatives of the Federal Government to end the lecturers strike which began on 14 February,2022 had ended without a breakthrough. However, the intervention of the leadership of the House of Representatives led by Rt Hon. Femi Gbajiabiamila revealed “light at the end of the tunnel ” according to ASUU .
