Governor of Oyo State,Seyi Makinde is earnestly putting the state in the forefront of infrastructure hubs in the country as the number of projects his administration embarked upon and completed within three and half years-has shown.
Makinde,in January 2021, commissioned a 65 km road linking Moniya a community in Ibadan to Iseyin,a town located on the state’s agriculture belt.
Makinde made this known while leading Editors on a tour of projects in Oyo State on Saturday.
He explained that the state engaged the services of a Contracting firm, COPEC for the project which he said costs the state government about 185 million per kilometer.
The governor while fielding questions on the life span of the road project said that the contractor had assured that it would be for a period of 20 years after which the company will carry out maintenance.
The governor is also constructing a 78 km road linking Iseyin to Ogbomosho while internal roads in Ibadan and other towns have either been completed or reaching advanced stages of completion.
In addition to this are a good number of projects inherited from his predecessors including the Akala road which his administration has taken over to ease the pain of people living with challenges of deplorable or lack of access roads.
The administration of Makinde has also given a boost to security, Healthcare and Education by providing primary healthcare in communities, making Universal Basic Education in the state more practical and functional and launched Amotekun, the South West security outfit in the state to compliment efforts of security agencies in securing lives and property. He said that his government in addition to paying prompt salaries and allowances to Amotekun personnel,also provides insurance policy for them.
Towards this direction, his government has procured a total of 135 operational vehicles and delivered for the smooth operation of Amotekun while it has also provided 11 motorcycles for each of the 351 wards in the state with the coordinators having one each.
Makinde who stated that the issue of business should be private sector driven said the government is providing the enabling environment for the private sector in the area of housing and disclosed the efforts made so far in the expansion of the runway at the Ibadan airport , provision of essential facilities that would promote aviation business and uplift the economic fortunes of the state.
Among projects that are defining Makinde ‘s first term are bus terminals along Ife road while the making of a new business district for the state capital is underway. .
. The administration ‘s commitment to ease of doing business has put smiles on the faces of the people as they go about their daily without fear but cheer the laudable efforts of Governor Makinde.
