The leader of the Pan Yoruba Socio- Political Group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, says that the organization has endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu as Sunday’s ceremony in Akure showed.
Fasoranti,in a viral video on Monday evening while granting an interview to some reporter said he remained the leader of the group, that the organisation at no time endorsed the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi.
He declared “I am still the leader of Afenifere. Afenifere has not endorsed Obi, we are endorsing Jagaban (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) for the presidency.
“As you can see, the trend, the approval and the acceptability. You could see what happened when Tinubu came to meet me in Akure. Media carried the whole thing.
“Adebanjo does not have the capacity to warn me not to welcome Tinubu. Can he do that successfully?
“What happened was that Adebanjo took a stand and I took a stand. I didn’t call him and he didn’t call me. We never spoke about the visit.
Fasoranti added “As you can see, Jagaban is accepted and we approve of him. Obi has no stand in our mind at all.”
On his part, the acting Chairman of Afenifere,Ayo Adebanjo said on Channels TV Monday night that Afenifere ‘s choice of Peter Obi remains and wondered why Fasoranti who handed over leadership of the Pan Yoruba group would suddenly turn around to play a significant leadership role.
Adebanjo said that the endorsement of Tinubu was conspiracy by people trying to divide Yorubaland.
When asked by the anchor of the programme if his action was in retaliation to presumed differences between the APC presidential flagbearer and himself, Adebanjo flared and said that was not it adding that his stand on the principle of fairness made him to choose Obi.
However, from the look of things, the Afenifere house is falling apart with Pa Fasoranti faction in support of Tinubu holding on to the greater side with a roll call of who is who in the land of Oduduwa.
Only 25th February 2023 will tell whose side is indeed greater in Egbaland, Those in support of Tinubu or those behind Obi?
