The Saint John’s Anglican, Port Harcourt has been lauded for rallying grassroot support to the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN).
Chairman of the Bible Society of Nigeria, Rivers/Bayelsa Area, Elder Omoni Ayo-Tamuno, BSN-SPM made the commendation at the Saint John’s Anglican Church, New Layout, Port Harcourt while at the presentation of Special Membership Certificate to the Vicar of the Church, the Venerable Jenibo E. D. Pono and his wife, Rose last Sunday.
Elder Ayo-Tamuno observed with keen interest the contribution of the Church through the Port Harcourt Auxiliary which translated to payment of their dues owed in the past five years.
He said “by this act the leadership and the church has demonstrated its commitment to support the society to function effectively and is worthy of emulation by other churches”.
The Chairman added ” I am convinced that the church will sustain the tempo even if the Vicar is posted out to other Churches “.
Elder Ayo-Tamuno, therefore, declared that Saint John’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt is ” Bible Society Friendly “
Receiving the Certificate, the Venerable Jenibo E. D. Pono said he was very happy to be honoured as a Special Member of the BSN.
Venerable Pono on behalf of his wife, Rose and the Church expressed appreciation to the Society and pledged his continued support to the BSN, adding that the Society should be free to contact the Church for assistance when the need arise.
Speaking on behalf of the Church, the People’s Warden/Treasurer, Chief Sir Clifford Njah assured the Society that the Church would stand by the Society always.
Chief Njah promised that the Church would encourage more members to enroll as Special Members and thanked the Society for the presentation of free New Testament Bibles to the Church.
The occasion also featured presentation of New Testament Bibles and other BSN literatures to the Church.
