A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital has disqualified Mr Tonye Cole, the Gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in Rivers State.
The court presided by Justice E.A Obile disqualified Cole on grounds of dual citizenship, for voluntarily acquiring citizenship of the United Kingdom and declaration of allegiance to same country.
It also held that Cole was not duly nominated by his political party and noncompliance with the provisions of the Electoral ACT 2022.
By the development, APC once again, cannot make an appearance on the ballot paper in March 11,2023 Gubernatorial election in Rivers State.
Recall that the APC in Rivers State failed to field a candidate during the 2019 general election due to protracted internal party crisis leading to court action sacking the same Cole who was also the gubernatorial candidate.
The party ‘s support for the AAC candidate Engr Biokpomabo Awara against the tactical PDP led by Governor Nyesom Wike did not help matters as some of the key actors allegedly worked against the party , leading the AAC candidate to stable defeat.
