Former Senator and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, Rivers State, Lee Maeba has said that his life was being threatened as thugs broke into his house in Port Harcourt. He states that this was a political attack.
He accused the Rivers State Commissioner of Police of refusing to react despite several calls from him.
“About 9 or 10 security personnel armed in his compound. Apparently because he was satisfied with what I did. As soon as the DCOP got there, investigation commenced and he was asked to make a statement. To him, that isn’t the procedure but as we speak from that day till today, he hasn’t written a statement.” Okon said.
“I called him the next day and told him we needed to see his statement but he was waiting on his lawyer.” Okon added.
He also denied statements from the former senator saying that he refused to react irrespective of several calls from him.
“I’m going to show you my call so you would be able to tell me how many times the senator called. I want to believe when someone is in distress they’ll call 1-3 times. I didn’t have his number, I wasn’t around. I was somewhere around gokana and on an operation.” I sent a team to get to his place which he interacted with. The team was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police.” Okon said.
The Commissioner of Police, Effiong Okon questions the motive behind the invasion. He alleges that there were no attempts by the thugs to actualize their goal. The former senator’s gates were analyzed and no damages were found. According to reports by Lee Maeba, the thugs jumped over the gate which was suspicious to the police commissioner. Effiong Okon also found it questionable that only old and rickety cars were destroyed while the luxurious cars were left untouched.
