The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Lauretta Onochie, a Special Assistant on Social Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, and 12 others as Chairman and board members of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
It will be recalled that in line with the provisions of Section 2(2)(a) of the NDDC Establishment Act, of which President Muhammadu Buhari wrote to the Senate requesting confirmation of the nominees, Committees on Niger Delta in the two Chambers of the National Assembly last Thursday screened Onochie alongside 13 others for the NDDC board .
It would be the second time Buhari forwarded a list of nominees for the Nboard for confirmation.
The President had in 2021,sent the first list of nominees for the board and the Senate screened and confirmed the nominees.
However, the reason adduced for a second list for confirmation according to the Senate President Ahmad Lawan was because there was a flaw in the previous compilation.
Recall that Onochie’s nomination provoked litany of protests and petitions from some committee members and groups from oil producing communities who said that her nomination breached the NDDC Act since she is not from an oil producing community in Delta state .
