Over two hundred thousand women from the seven Local Government Areas of the Rivers South East Senatorial District converged on Bori, Thursday,the Senatorial headquarters to show support for Sim Fubari, the Gubernatorial candidate of the Proples Democratic Party PDP of the state.
The women included the Wife of the State PDP chairman,Mrs Ene Akawor who chaired the occasion, permanent secretary, Ministry of Information,Mrs Ibiwari Clapton Ogolo, wives of Commissioners and local government council chairmen as well as Prof Roselyn Konya and Mrs Priscilla Vikue, distinguished daughters of Ogoniland.
Also the event was a roll call of important dignitaries, the serving senator and senatorial candidate for the District,Chief Barinada Mpigi, the Members representing the district in the House of representatives and Assembly and the seven local government chairmen of the district were all in attendance for the “South East Women Unity Walk for Sim “
Addressing the gathering, Senator Mpigi said the ” Sir Simiialayi Fubara is a son and brother of Ogoni people and will consolidate on the massive development witnessed in the area under Gov. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike who transformed the Saakpenwa/ Kono road into a dual carriageway. This is a remarkable feat in the history of the zone which cannot be taken for granted.
Mpigi who expressed delight at the massive turn out , and showing felicity at Christmas,donated 700 bags of rice and N500,000 to each of the Local Government Areas in the district.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and wife of the Chairman of the PDP, Akawor had lauded the women for coming out to align with the Sim Fubara project in the state and assured that the women in the senatorial district will cast their votes for Mr Fubara.
